Shining Tor 2026

Wednesday 13th May 2026

Event Details

Shining Tor is a well established race. Taking you from the Errwood reservoir near the ruins of Errwood Hall, up to the summit of Shining Tor and along the ridge to Pym’s chair, giving you fantastic views of the Cheshire plain or down to the Roaches and beyond.  (weather permitting).

I reckon we have the best registration venue in the Errwood sailing club, of any fell race, but I might be biased. Nice toilets, and a good room for registration plus the sailing club do hot cold food and drinks for your pre and post race appetites.

As has happened in recent years, Buxton Mountain rescue team will marshal the course, which I think makes it the best marshalled. But I am biased.

Last year the profit of £1500 was donated to Mountain rescue  so they can keep on helping those who get into trouble on the hills surrounding the Goyt Valley. They are all volunteers but need cash to maintain equipment and resources, so look on your entry fee as an insurance premium that you hope to never call on.

Start time is 7.30. though after an incident some years ago we are saying that there will be a time limit of 90 minutes to complete. Also after atrocious weather in previous years you will be required to bring full FRA kit, though it is up the organiser on the day to say if it is needed.

Please be aware we are going straight up the Stakeside path from the car park.  There is a map of the route here

Refunds & Cancellations
Individual refunds will only ever be issued at the Race Organiser’s discretion. For a refund to be considered, full details must be emailed to us for consideration within a reasonable time frame of the event.

We do not refund booking fees that were applied on top of the base Entry fee paid. The fees are Third Party charges and as such we do not receive them as part of the race regisitration transaction.

We hold the rights to amend/cancel any aspect of an event at late notice. Cancellation will only ever be a last resort for us, and we will always take direction on event cancellations from government agencies (e.g. the Met Office for weather related incidents) and the National Governing Body concerned, in addition to our assessment of the local conditions.
In the event of any cancellation, if it possible to reschedule the event to a different date in the same calendar year then all entries will be automatically transferred to the new date. Deferrals and transfers will be permitted for the rescheduled event.

Where an event cannot be rescheduled, committed contractors will be paid and remaining funds will be offered as partial refunds.
